Linglestown was founded in 1765 by Thomas Lingle who was, in a sense, a real estate developer of his day. Lingle called the settlement “The Town of St. Thomas” after his Christian namesake, but everyone took to calling the village “Lingle’s town.” The name stuck.
Today, over 6,000 people reside in Linglestown, which boasts its own elementary and middle school that feed into Central Dauphin High School.
