Virtual Parade of Homes Even Better Than the In-Person Event
Every year, across the country, enthusiasts of beautiful homes flock to Parade of Homes events to see the best in home design, construction, and renovation. The York Builders Association (YBA), associated with the National Home Builders Association and the Pennsylvania Builders Association, is one of the organizations that hosts a Parade of Homes each year. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the York Builders Association decided to do things a little bit differently. Rather than gathering people together for an in-person event, the Parade of Homes went virtual for the first time. While it was certainly different than the in-person events of the past, those of us at Swartz Kitchens & Baths believe there are a few reasons why the Virtual Parade of Homes may have been even better than ever.
All of the Comfort, None of the Hassle
While it’s great to be able to experience the homes in person, there’s something special about being in the comfort of your own home to view the Parade of Homes. In your own space, you can imagine how certain features, materials, or colors might look when used in, say, your own kitchen or bathroom. You could even imagine how an entire additional room, like a sunroom, might transform your home. You have the ability to truly visualize how the incredible features in the Parade of Homes will translate into your own space without ever leaving it (no need to change out of those comfy pajamas!).
Typically, precautions are taken during walk-throughs to maintain the pristine condition of the homes on display. One precaution is putting booties on over your shoes each time you enter a new home (and taking them off when you leave). These booties are essential to prevent dirt or scuff marks, but they can make the tour experience feel more laborious than luxurious. In the Virtual Parade of Homes, no booties are required! Each home can be admired without worrying about your footwear, so you can enjoy the experience without the extra effort.
At Your Own Pace, On Your Own Time
The in-person Parade of Homes only happens during a certain timeframe, typically over the course of one weekend. If you’re unable to attend the event while it’s happening, you miss out on seeing the beautiful homes altogether. With the Virtual Parade of Homes, time is on your side. Every viewer can click through the galleries at their own pace, stopping to admire whatever sparks their inspiration. Since the event is virtual and prolonged, many more people have been able to view the craftsmanship of the homes on display!
Because the virtual parade is evergreen, you go back to the virtual parade again and again (even when housebound during a COVID-19 lockdown or a cold, snowy season) to flip through design inspiration and figure out what you really want. And, you can move at your own pace as you click through the galleries and watch video tours.
Speaking of moving at your own pace, if you haven’t had a chance to see the Virtual Parade of Homes yet, it’s still available for viewing. Take a look and see what catches your eye!
Builder Insights Right From the Source
One final reason that the Virtual Parade of Homes may be even better than the in-person event is that you have direct access to builder insights and inspiration. At Swartz Kitchens & Baths, we work with some amazing builders and designers on a daily basis. One of those builders is Jeffrey L. Henry, INC. Building and Remodeling, who featured a home in the YBA Parade of Homes. Jeffery L. Henry, INC. has won the PEAK award for best custom home two years in a row now, first in 2019 and then in 2020. It’s no surprise why their custom home received this honor! While you can take a look here to view the gallery and a watch a video tour of the home (hearing about it straight from one of the builders!), we want to highlight some of the most stunning features that really gave us that wow factor.
As you walk up to the front door, you’ll see a beautiful covered patio that makes you feel welcome and invites you in. Upon entering the home, one of the first things you’ll notice is the hand-scraped, bold acacia hardwood floors that extend throughout the home. These floors create a warm, sophisticated look in each room. High ceilings and french doors into the home office make the one-story house feel large and bright. A beautiful stone fireplace draws focus in the living room, which then opens up into a spacious open-copcept kitchen. Open shelves throughout the kitchen make the room feel more spacious and inviting. Beautiful white cabinetry matches the vent hood and crown molding, which create a striking look. Reflective marbled countertops that extend to the island contrast well with the island’s dark wood, playing up the natural light and making the room feel bigger. The kitchen was thoughtfully designed with a custom herringbone tile backsplash and stainless steel features that keep it looking modern and cohesive.
The large windows and glass panels throughout the home allow natural light to flow into the space. The sun room especially, which used to be a covered patio, has natural light streaming in. We love white trim around the windows in every room of the house, including the private guest suite bedroom. The bathroom has an impressive custom tile walk-in shower with a built-in tile bench. Lovely double vanity sinks nestled within countertops and custom cabinetry that match the kitchen really pull the design together. Last but not least, there is a full basement for entertainment, lounging, games, and dining which really makes the home feel unique and spacious.

The Parade of Homes showcases the beautiful craftsmanship, materials, and designs available on the market. While 2020’s conditions didn’t allow people to travel together to these events or walk through the homes in large groups, the Virtual Parade of Homes still featured everything it was meant to show off (with some added perks!.) Those of us at Swartz Kitchens & Baths are proud to have been a premier sponsor of the Parade of Homes, and to have collaborated with some of the designers and builders who create these stunning homes.
